CORRECTIVE EXERCISE: As the body is an interconnected chain, compensation or dysfunction in one region may lead to dysfunctions in other areas of the body. Symptoms may be addressed, but if the cause of those symptoms is not, reoccurring injury will result. Therefore, assessments are crucial to detecting muscle imbalances. A customized training plan including muscle inhibition (foam rolling), lengthening (static stretching), activation (isolated strengthening) and integrative exercising (dynamic, full body exercises) addresses these imbalances.
STRETCHING - flexibility-focused practice, operating as much to compensate for clients’ hard workouts as for their sedentary lifestyles: when you sit slouched over at your desk, your pectoral muscles and your hips get really tight and the lower back get weak and painful. One-on-one stretching sessions, using foam rollers or body-rolling balls address the specific asymmetries of clients’ individual bodies, relaxing tight muscles.

STRETCHING/
IMPROVE POSTURE
One to One Stretching (active, static and self myofascial release/ foam rolling)

Stretching is for everyone. Static stretches can have a significant impact on mobility, flexibility, muscle tension, acute and chronic pain.
Static stretches reset the stretch reflex (protective mechanism of the body that initiates muscle contraction as a response to rapid lengthening), so muscles return to their normal length.
Foam rollers/ massage balls are used to focus on the neural and fascial systems in the body that can be negatively influenced by poor posture, repetitive motions, or dysfunctional movements. By applying slow, progressive pressure on trigger points (tight, spastic, sensitive to touch), the muscles stretch to reduce tension, unknot and relign.

Benefits include:
-
Correction of muscle imbalances
-
Muscle relaxation
-
Improved flexibility, joint range of motion
-
Improved neuromuscular efficiency
-
Reduced soreness and improved tissue recovery
-
Suppression/reduction of trigger point sensitivity and pain
-

CORE CONDITIONING
This type of class focuses on improving core strength by working the abdominals, back and gluteal muscles. The class format consists of a thorough total body warmup, core strength work, and total body final stretch. Floor/mat work is optional; may stand & sit in a chair. The goal of this class is to activate and re-engage core muscles to improve daily endurance, improve posture and prevent injury.

PILATES
Pilates is a body conditioning routine that helps build flexibility and long, lean muscles. Focus is on strength and endurance in the legs, gluteals, abdominals, arms, hips, and back. Will emphasize spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing to relieve stress and allow adequate oxygen flow to muscles, developing a strong core or center (toning abdominals while strengthening the back), and improving coordination and balance. Pilates involves mat exercises and may include other props/ modalities (weights, balls, resistance bands).
CARDIO - TONE
The class combines a variety of exercises to help increase cardio endurance as well as strengthening muscles using weights/ resistance bands.
STRENGTH
A strength class is primarily an anaerobic activity that uses weights, resistance tools and one’s own body weight to induce muscular contraction, which builds the strength and endurance of muscles. This type of class will help increase bone density, increase metabolism, improve joint function and provide significant functional benefits for improved activities of daily living.
QIGONG
Tai chi and qigong are two mind-body practices that originated in ancient China. They are often combined practices (within one class) and are appropriate for people of almost any age or condition. Tai chi is a type of low-impact and weight-bearing exercise that began as a martial art. As it developed, it took on the purpose of enhancing physical and mental health. Involves slow, gentle movements, a series of postures and exercises, deep breathing, and meditation.

YOGA FOR SENIORS
Benefits of practicing yoga are numerous: increased muscle tone, balance (which is particularly important), strength, and improved mood. Through pranayama (breathing exercises), lung capacity is increased. It also improves posture and may improve sleep, Attendants may stand, sit or use a chair for standing support.

SENIOR STRETCH
Senior stretch is a class that provides flexibility and increase range of motion for the entire body. The instructor will focus on all major muscle groups with a variety of different types of stretch techniques. The goal is for your body to feel better, prevent injury, and increase range of motion.

STRENGTH AND BALANCE
Strength and balance is important in everyday life and this class will help you improve your ability to feel strong and stable. Strength exercises may include lifting handheld weights, stretching resistive bands/ tubing and using your own body’s resistance while also using your core muscles to improve balance and stability.

WALKING
Walking is a structured class that incorporates different rates of speed to increase and decrease the heart rate to build endurance. Outdoors walking is most beneficial, however it may be done along hallways if weather does not cooperate. Walking can provide health benefits that include but are not limited to weight loss, toning, increase in energy and stress relief. You will find this class fun and have the opportunity to socialize.
This class may be combined (at beginning and end) with Pilates-type movements and stretches.
May also use hand held weights for an extra challenge, or walking poles. That will help to use the upper body and the core, allowing for a more total-body workout while having fun. Walking with poles helps us walk in a natural alignment of the spine, therefore strengthening the core with each step.
